Rules and Etiquette

Is there any etiquette rules I should be aware?

Our school is an environment that is safe and welcoming for every student and to keep it this way we ask that you conduct yourself in a well-mannered fashion and follow some simple rules:

  1. Bring your clean uniform to class, if you don’t have one appropriate exercise clothes are sufficient (see question below for more information).
  2. Always salute the flag and higher belt to get in/out of the mat.
  3. Don’t come in to the studio with your shoes on, we shoe racks where you can store them.
  4. Keep your belongings in the unit shelves and/or in the changing room. Don’t leave any clothing or personal items on the washroom or reception area.
  5. Feel free to use the kitchen, but don’t forget to wash your dishes.
  6. Make sure your phone is on silent.
  7. Avoid watching classes you are not participating in. This is very distracting to our students.
  8. Don’t overlook the deodorant! We will be thankful.
  9. Try to be at least 10 minutes early for class.
  10. Be nice! We want to maintain a friendly, respectful and polite environment for all.

What should I wear to a Pa Kua class?

Wear comfortable clothing that you’ll be able to easily move around in. You won’t need any fancy footwear — bare feet or anti-slip socks work just fine.

Of course, we welcome you bringing friends, family and co–workers to try any of our classes. They can get a Free Week Trial online or you can talk directly with one of our instructors.

Yes, we have a shelf unit that can be used on a first come, first serve basis and for single day use only. We also have a changing room with hangers that can be used while you’re in class.

New Member and Trial Students

Do I need to bring any special equipment?

We provide all the equipment you’ll need at the studio. But if you have your own equipment, reach out to us to see if it’s suited for the class and if so, of course you can bring it.

How does the free trial work?

When you sign up for a free trial, you’ll have access to an unlimited number of classes for 7 days. Try as many classes as you want during the trial period and find the right fit for you. There is no payment information required for a free trial.

I have physical limitations. Can I still attend the class?

Of course, you can! Our classes can be adapted to suit any student limitation, whether it’s age, fitness, or physical condition. Our team of trained instructors are able to customize and adapt exercises to ensure a great experience regardless of a limitation. Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes, all students must sign a waiver to participate in our classes. If the student is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver instead.

What is Pa Kua?

Pa Kua is an ancient Chinese knowledge that has served humanity from ancient times up to the present days, helping us understand the changes around us and adapting to them. In the Pa Kua School, we approach this ancient and exciting knowledge through the practice of one or more of our classes

Where is the studio located?

Our studio is located downtown London. The address is 242 Dundas Street, Unit 1B (lower level). Street parking is available and we’re easily accessible along many major bus routes.

Membership and Payments

What’s included in my registration fee?

Your registration fee includes an administrative fee and a Pa Kua welcome kit. The welcome kit comes with several perks, such as a uniform and a white belt (but we’re sure you’ll move up to black belt in no time). ,

What are the options for paying for the Membership?

The monthly membership is paid in a monthly basis directly from your chequing account or credit card. Our annual plan also can be paid in instalments, up to 12 months, with recurring payment from your chequing account or credit card.

Can I freeze my Membership?

Yes, the Annual Membership gives you the right to freeze or hold the Membership for up to one month for non-medical reasons and for up to 3 months due to medical reasons (doctor’s note required), that must be used during a same period and cannot be split, during which time you will not be charged the usual membership fees and will not have access to the School classes. To exercise this right, you must inform in written (personally or email) at least 15 days before the freeze is to take effect (except in cases of medical emergencies), stating that you wish to freeze the Membership and the duration in which the freeze is to apply.
If you wish to extend your hold period, or for our monthly students, we offer the inactive plan, where for a small fee you can keep your registration active without paying the full price of the membership.

How do I cancel my Membership?

If you wish to cancel your Membership, you need to give us written notice, preferably by email. If you do need to cancel before the expiration date of your Membership, you may be subject to a cancellation fee.

Do you offer drop-ins?

Yes, we do, you can book online or contact us on london@pakuacanada.com or (519) 204-8332 to schedule your drop-in.

Kid’s Classes

How old does a student have to be to participate in the classes?

The minimum age for our classes is 4-years-old, with exception of Archery that we require the student to be at least 8-years-old. It’s necessary for a parent or guardian to sign the waiver and/or contract for anyone under 18 years old. We offer specific classes for kids, such as Martial Art, Acrobatics and Archery, if you don’t find a specific class for kids in our schedule give us a call.

Do you require the parent/guarding to be in the School during the kid's class?

We don’t require a guardian/parent present, since the presence can also interfere with the notion of authority for the children, in whom to listen or pay attention. It’s important to them to be focused on the class. If you wish to remain on the school we ask that you don’t interact with the student during class, allowing the instructor to properly work with them.

Fulfillment lies beyond your comfort zone. Try a free week of classes to begin your journey.
